South Korean restaurants are using AI robots to cope with labor shortages. Data from the Korean Association of Robot Industry shared with the Financial Times showed there were 5,000 server robots in Korean restaurants. AdvertisementAdvertisementDuring the pandemic, Reuters reported that South Korean tech company KT Corp started selling "Aglio Kim" – a trolley-like AI robot to restaurants. However, tech executives in South Korea told the FT they're now concerned the market is being flooded by cheap Chinese robots, stymying the country's own robotics makers. Aju Korea Daily reported in May that South Korean startups were offering restaurants robots to rent for 300,000 won a month.

Rescue workers are seen at a scene where, according to media reports, nine people have been stabbed and four others hurt by a car driven by the suspected attacker in Seongnam, South Korea, August 3, 2023. The unexplained rampage came days after another rare stabbing attack in Seoul which killed one person and wounded three others. "I've been telling my families and friends to stay home," a 31-year-old Seoul resident said. Police Commissioner General Yoon Hee-keun on Thursday warned South Koreans to be on guard for such attacks and told officials to be vigilant. Experts said there was a risk similar crimes could follow, and urged authorities to swiftly analyse patterns in recent rampage crimes to come up with countermeasures.

BRISBANE, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Twice former winners Germany crashed out in the opening phase of the Women's World Cup for the first time after being held to a 1-1 draw with South Korea in their final Group H match on Thursday. Casey Phair, who became the Women's World Cup's youngest ever player earlier in the tournament, almost gave the Koreans the lead when the 16-year-old saw her second minute effort pushed onto the post by goalkeeper Merle Frohms. Germany were frustrated by the hard-pressing Koreans, but in the 42nd minute the former champions levelled as Popp out-jumped the defence to meet Svenja Huth's right wing cross and loop her header beyond Kim Jung-mi. Voss-Tecklenburg's side threw everything forward after the interval, with Popp's 57th minute header ruled out on review by VAR as the striker strayed offside following a clever flick by Lea Schuller. The release of the water from huge storage tanks into the Pacific is expected soon though no date has been set. The rush to stock up contributed to a nearly 27% rise in the price of salt in South Korea in June from two months ago, though officials say the weather and lower production were also to blame. South Korean fisheries authorities say they will keep a close eye on salt farms for any rise in radioactivity. South Korea has banned seafood from the waters near Fukushima, on Japan's east coast.

On January 20, a fire tore through the shantytown of Guryong village in Seoul. ED JONES/Getty ImagesGuryong feels like a world away from Seoul, but it's very close to where the most well-heeled people in South Korea live. Around a fifth of single-person households in Seoul live in spaces under 14 square meters, or 150 square feet. But for now it's still Guryong village — a smoldering scar on the sparkling facade South Korea would rather have you looking at instead.
This fall, Ross made history as the first trans woman to ever play a leading role on Broadway. He added that Ross’ debut in the long-running American musical “opens the door to full acceptance” for the transgender community. “Black theater artists are asking for white American theater to see us and consider us in producing work,” Jackson said. The Black Theatre Coalition said it aimed “to remove the ‘ILLUSION OF INCLUSION’ in the American Theatre,” by combating racism and providing more work opportunities for Black artists, according to the group’s mission statement. “I hope there’s an Angelica Ross backstage, whether that’s in stage management, whether that’s in front of the house,” he said.
